Passing in Children’s Literature and Film

I was wondering how deep “passing” really goes this afternoon, and my mind wondered if all the stories we’ve heard, or seen, or read as children about a protagonist becoming someone else in order to prove themselves or their legitimacy to others stories about passing? Memories of Aladdin, or Mulan, or Cinderella, or Coming to America (Not really a children’s movie, but a movie I love) or Battlestar Galactica (again, just a personal favorite, not necessarily kid-friendly) came to mind. I think that these are all movies or shows that deal with passing to some degree. Read more…
